Uranus Retrograde in Aries ♅ July 26 - Dec 25

Uranus turns retrograde in Aries from July 26 - Dec 25, 2015

Click here to learn about Uranus. Click here to learn about Aries.

To be very clear, planets in retrograde are not actually spinning backwards – it is entirely an optical illusion as seen from Earth. Backwards motion appears to happen when Earth passes slower moving planets in the outer solar system. In astrology, this illusion manifests as “backwards” functioning of the planets and their respective roles. Click here to learn more about retrograde motion.

Ruler of fixed air sign and notorious rebel Aquarius, Uranus is all about freedom. He defies tradition and embraces uniqueness. Uranian energy is innovative, original and progressive. Areas of life associated with this planet are electricity, technology, enlightenment, objectivity, ingenuity, investigation and discovery. When balanced, Uranian energy is the spark that illuminates curiosity, propelling us to ask questions and explore ardently. Imbalanced Uranian energy makes us reckless, restless, extreme, forceful, overreactive or irresponsible. Uranus loves nothing more than to make waves, disrupting the agenda of The Man.

Uranus Retrograde

Uranus has occupied cardinal fire sign Aries since May 2010 and will be here until March 2019. Uranus is actually retrograde about half the time. What does this mean? When Uranus turns retrograde, we are asked to examine our spontaneity and authenticity. As with Saturn retrograde, we confront fears and blocks. The difference here is that revelations happen suddenly. Priorities and values quickly make themselves clear. Problems present themselves immediately and aggressively, making them impossible to ignore. All who are balanced attain new levels of conscious awareness.

We are now entering a deep labyrinth of mental probing and analysis. Uranus retrograde asks: what have you blindly accepted? Prepare for an abrupt change in direction if one is needed! This transit always pushes me out of jobs, relationships, perspectives and behaviors that have successfully trapped me in a state of unawareness. Some, myself included, are able to feel shift happening but can’t seem to harness the energy, so you may spend a lot of time processing said changes without immediately acting upon them. On that note, it is not uncommon to feel lost or anxious during Uranus Rx transits. You may experience personality changes during this time. Every retrograde period lifts a veil. What we see underneath is not always what we desire, but this is often because we have gotten too comfortable. The path that you brought you to the present moment will be fully illuminated.

Uranus in Aries

On a broader scale, Uranus retrograde manifests as general unrest in society. Truths that have been covered up, suppressed or ignored will all be unearthed as Uranus continues his transit of ferocious Aries. Conventions and traditions are challenged, and change follows suit. You don’t have to look far to see how global transformations and struggles for freedom are growing exponentially. Political systems are faced with demands for overhaul like we’ve never seen before. This is a result of Aries fire igniting Uranus’ unorthodox, groundbreaking energy. Whatever we’ve been doing up until now is obviously not working. The ram, being the first sign in the zodiac, demands a return to square one. All that has been hidden now resurfaces. Corruption, scandal and hypocrisy are dinosaurs wheezing their last breaths.

With Uranus turning retrograde, the inner rebel steps down for reflection. We are passive and pensive, resting inside a cocoon in preparation for when Uranus turns direct again, a time when we will burst forth to express our true, uninhibited Self. Some interpretations of Uranus state that we feel more rebellious during retrograde periods, but I disagree. Uranus Retrograde gives us better access to our intuition and instincts; when Uranus turns direct, we boldly apply new inner wisdom in the external world and make necessary changes, even risky ones.

Those born with Uranus retrograde always need to know why, why, why? There is a tendency here to control the inner rebel until it all comes out at once, seemingly from nowhere. Uranus retrograde in the natal chart points to a need for internal change before external manifestation. The power of the inner rebel is underestimated.

I was born when Uranus was retrograde. Those with this disposition may not feel the effects of this period as much, if at all. Last Quarter Moon in Aries ☾ July 8, 2015

The Last Quarter in Aries comes exact on Wednesday, July 8 at 4:24 pm EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Aries.

We now approach the Last Quarter, halfway between full and new, moon squaring Sun at 90˚. (Seen from above, the moon forms a right angle in relation to an invisible line running from the Earth to the Sun, hence “square” as the name for this astrological aspect. Here the moon has completed 3/4 of her journey around the Earth.) In this particular phase, the Sun in Cancer squares the moon in cardinal fire Aries. The moon will rise at midnight, peak at dawn and set at noon. If you view the moon at midnight, the Sun will be positioned directly beneath your feet. Staring at the moon during this time will align you so that you are looking right out (approximately) along the forward path of Earth’s orbit around the Sun ^__^

Squares mean change

The Full Moon in Capricorn ushered in conscious awareness, revelations and illumination of all that was hidden, lurking. Now we decide which information/ideas best serve us. The waning light of the moon represents gradual descent into darkness: a return to the proverbial womb. It is wise to launch new endeavors at a later date so as to better focus on the imminent. The week between the Last Quarter and New Moon (July 8-15) is the ideal time to buckle down and wrap up all that was set in place with the New Moon in Gemini of mid-June.

We have come to a corner and must choose a direction. Any stress or anxiety that surfaces now is there to catalyze decision-making. Gracefully surrender. Release and forgive. Destroy useless internal edifices. The moon is asking you to empty yourself. The entire Cancer cycle thus far has encouraged us to harness the power of divine feminine badassery – let this last week be your best yet, no holds barred, just a mega release of prolific and utterly glorious work. The Last Quarter Moon in Aries of summer 2014 fell on July 18; whatever themes predominated then will now resurface.

Aries the newborn

The Last Quarter Moon in Aries represents a conflict between the Self and Mother. I like to imagine each Moon cycle as a procession of poignantly themed challenges. Generally speaking, the Cancer cycle is emotional in nature, but the ram is here now to awaken the Earth - kickstart our plans - jump and move. Are you prepared for rebirth, should the Universe come knocking on your door at this very moment? The ram fishes the crab out of the water now as if to say: remember this entire world around you and all that it has to offer! This Last Quarter Moon is a fiery call to action for the passive crab.

Aries attempts now to add some combustible energy to Cancer’s slow feminine essence so that it may spiral into its fullest expression. Without the ram’s impressive drive, the crab remains forever locked within her own vivid dream world. Cancer prefers to keep the waters calm, but Aries cannot tolerate such meekness. Yes, we must be assertive and promote our individuality - but not at the cost of alienating loved ones and support systems. So the challenge is to move forward with our personal agenda while still respecting our roots. At this time our desire to favor the Self will speak to the heart while the pull towards roots/home will feel like a duty.

Climb your mountain

Aries is a cardinal sign, a bright compass in the darkness. The ram is also a creature of fire - reckless and temperamental one moment, spirited and excitable the next. Expect others to be more feisty, animated and vigorous than usual. Use this raw energy to do some exploring, hiking, dancing or fierce cardio. Since Aries is the first sign in the realm, this phase of the Moon represents a return to square one. You may feel the urge to journal, detox or engage in some self-care. The energy of this transit is akin to a ram breaking through a wall – powerful, bold, impulsive.

When I visualize Aries, I see a blood red sun rising over jagged mountains - hot, dry land - a fateful mood soaking the sky. Everything is hard and rough - forceful, physical, divine masculine. Now is the time to do without thinking. Rear your horns and climb the mountain. If you’re feeling imbalanced, treat this for what it is: a phase, nothing more. Energy levels will increase now temporarily. I suggest a bonfire or some Aries Yoga.

Mercury enters Cancer on the same day and Mars, ruler of Aries, will form a harmonious trine to Neptune in Pisces.

New Moon #2 in Aries ⬤ Apr 18, 2015

The New Moon in Aries comes exact on Saturday, April 18 at 2:57 am EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Aries.

Yes, we had a new moon in Aries last month too (Sun and Super Solar Eclipse in Aries). Sometimes we end up with two new moons in the same sign, all in one cycle. We have an incredible opportunity now to reap the benefits of TWO new moons in Aries. The second new moon in Aries marks the end of the Aries cycle, launching us headfirst into the rest of the astrological year. I do not expect that this new moon will be any more potent than last month’s combination of Supermoon + Solar Eclipse + Equinox + New Moon. I am grateful to receive the ram’s blessings a second time.

LIFE. HAPPINESS. MOVEMENT. DIRECTION. VISION.

• visualize heat radiating from your chakras

• connect to your heartbeat - what makes you feel alive?

think fresh and fearless

cultivate self-compassion and self-worth

In yoga…

• incorporate passion and enthusiasm

• practice with others to create kula: community; the idea that all facets of Existence are connected

• you are strong, but not invincible

It is time to create. Your mind is sharp and prepared. Walk with confidence. Trust in divine timing.

With Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus respectively occupying each of the fire signs, this is a sublime occasion to ask for whatever we really want. Fire energy is inherently liberating. You can and must reject doubt, insecurity and fear. Fire does not reflect. It simply moves. No thoughts or questions now as to whether or not you have become – you are. You are in control. The hard truth is that we must learn to love the Self before we can really love or support another. This is the defining quest. This is the journey of all journeys.

ambition • focus • drive // balanced by // humility • patience • consideration

Let’s dance ecstatically upon the hearth of Life’s sacred fire. Here you are free to be yourself and no one else. Fill the dark sky with your light. You are being lifted now by an unseen force. Namaste.

Mercury in Aries - Mar 30, 2015

Mercury transits Aries from March 30 – April 14

Click here to learn about Mercury. Click here to learn about Aries.

Mercury transits to cardinal fire Aries after hanging out in mutable water Pisces for the last few weeks. In speech, writing and self-presentation, we ain’t holdin back. Mercury in Aries has a sharp tongue and a bad habit of speaking before thinking. With no filters in place, it is all too easy now to spout off in a moment of anger. When Mercury the Messenger meets up with the fiery ram, tact is difficult to employ. On the bright side, our style of communication is now incandescently direct and honest.

Mercury, ruler of mental processes, lover of to-do lists, calendars, letters, media, schedules – everything that keeps us moving forward in the societal sense of linear progression. This is why Mercury transits are, in my opinion, a fine occasion to set some goals. You will have the most success now with goals that are active in nature. Mercury in Aries wants to set things in motion; this energy is initiating and groundbreaking. Perhaps now is the time to begin a letter writing or journaling routine. Prepare to create the Self anew, fresh and light as a blood red crocus opening unto the first warm spring afternoon.

Many of us will now be tested in our ability to remain calm, cool and collected in the face of aggression or turmoil. As the flames of Aries continue to fill the sky, everything becomes more straightforward. The challenges presented by Mercury in Aries are by no means poetic - they’re gritty and undeniably real. The Universe rises to her full height with a look in her eyes that seems to say: I’m going to be merciless because I know you can handle it. If you’re feeling imbalanced, I highly suggest returning to a childlike mentality. For those who have spent ample time with children, you will know what I mean by this. Children say what they mean and mean what they say. They ask questions without fear or insecurity. They move forward with incredible ease. Children remind us of our basic nature, as does the ram. We are born into each life with an infinite capacity for love, forgiveness, optimism and honesty.

You may recall that Mercury transited Aries’ opposite sign (Libra) back in September 2014. Any themes that predominated then will now resurface. Mercury in Libra was balanced and diplomatic. Libra gravitates towards peace and mindfulness, Aries towards war and mindlessness. Libra and Aries both feel a deep need to be surrounded by others, but for totally different reasons. Libra wants to support and be supported, whereas Aries simply wants attention and validation. Mercury in Aries does not speak on behalf of the community, but rather straight from the ego - don’t be surprised if you start talking about yourself more than usual! This self-centeredness is the shadow side of Mercury in Aries. It’s not that the ram doesn’t want harmony, he’s just not very practiced in it. This placement is sharp, swift and spontaneous. Our greatest task now is to work together.

Mercury in Libra helped us with interpersonal relationships; Mercury in Aries dares us to open a dialogue with the Self. When imbalanced, do you routinely lash out at others? Are you burning bridges just to make some misguided point? Are you assertive or just downright aggressive? What does your communication style say about you as a person? We are asked now to give an honest look at where we stand in our circle and how this placement affects us as individuals. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, remember that this transit is empowering at its core. Now is the time to be decisive and determine where/whether you’ve over-compromised. There is a fine line between caring too much about group opinion and not caring enough. Mercury in Aries will help you get in touch with your most authentic Self. One thing’s for sure: there’s no bullshitting, small talking or beating around the bush now.

There is a real danger now in offending others, but I refuse to get hung up on this. Although imbalanced Aries are not always empathic or understanding, the balanced ram possesses a humility that often exceeds that of the other signs. This is simply due to the fact that the ram must work harder than anyone else to overcome egotistical impulses. And how about Aries’ insistence on remaining candid and forthright? Aries needs to keep things raw because there is so much going on internally. The ram’s psyche is constantly imploding with color, noise, movement and ideas. The ram knows intuitively that not everything can or will be communicated properly.

If imbalanced, you may have to reckon with a loud internal voice that insists everything is about You. Well, it’s not. Combating the voice of the unreasonable ego with logic and rationalism feels like an uphill battle, but how else can we do it? Find your center. Be prepared to speak. Remind yourself of what you really want. Will you allow fleeting moments of rage to determine your fate?

Sun & Super Solar Eclipse in Aries ♈ Mar 20, 2015

The Sun transits Aries from March 20 - April 20. The Super New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries comes exact on March 20 at 5:36 am EST.

Click here to learn about the Sun, the Moon or Aries: The Ram

Disclaimer: when talking about Sun signs, it’s really more accurate to say “the Earth’s relation to the Sun” since the Earth is the one moving. An appropriate name for this much-celebrated, often oversimplified astrological element would therefore be “Earth Sign.” Remember – you embody a whole soup of planets!

If you are an Aries, this is your Solar Return. The Sun moves into the realm of the fiery ram on the same day that the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries rises dark and silent in the sky. This one is a Supermoon – yes, even New Moons qualify – because, according to Richard Nolle’s definition, it occurs “…with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.” (This phenomenon is also known as perigee.) And yes, we had one last month too (Sun and Supermoon in Pisces). And YES, it’s also the first Solar Eclipse since 2013 AND the Spring Equinox. The eclipse will only be visible to a select few here on Earth - check out this page from Space.com to learn more.

Every New Moon falls in the same sign as that of the Sun as this is precisely what makes it a New Moon. With the Sun in mutable water Pisces for the last month, our attention was directed toward matters of the spirit. I find that the Pisces cycle is actually quite arduous because it incites turmoil in the psyche. Life felt sweet and dreamlike at times, and at others was fraught with indecision, incommunicable frustration and inexplicable moodiness. Prepare for life to pick up considerably over the next few weeks.

The Martian cycle

The New Moon in cardinal fire sign Aries marks the kickoff for the coming month and the official end of the Piscean/Neptunian cycle. Needless to say, the combination of Supermoon + Solar Eclipse + Equinox + New Moon energies pack a serious punch. But the cherry on top is really the fact that it’s all going down in the sign of Aries. Balanced Aries are incredibly outgoing, self-determined and energetic. Aries energy is fresh like morning dew, sharp as a sword and fearless as the warrior running headfirst into battle. Imbalanced Aries energy is reckless, aggressive and impulsive. I’ve had to really watch my mouth lately! For those who normally have trouble keeping cool, prepare to be tested. We have to try harder than ever now to be patient, compassionate and tactful. Aries energy emanates from the Self - it’s easy now to get stuck in the raging fires of the ego. Those flames will be leaping and multiplying with unprecedented vigor!

Proud of you

Studying the polarities of the zodiac wheel is an effective method to learn more about the signs. You may recall that cardinal air Libra is Aries’ opposite sign, 180 degrees across on the wheel. Libra encourages us to share, cooperate and compromise. Aries, first sign of the realm, is Libra’s crude yet dazzling predecessor. It’s not that Aries are utterly self-absorbed, although they can be when imbalanced, but rather that the ram knows, from deep within the soul, that one of life’s greatest joys comes from taking pride in the Self. When I visualize Aries, I see a blood red flower blooming over and over from the base of the spine up to the head; the flower emanates heat, generates life, creates endlessly. Yet we must find a balance. Yes, I want to walk around with total confidence, boldly expressing my truest Self, and yes, I also want to make sure I’m giving, being considerate of others and learning how to live and take part in a community. Aries burns through space with a brightness that has the power to blind even the Self while Libra travels calmly and with purpose, ironing out all the wrinkles left by the ram’s swift, impatient hooves.

The Aries cycle aims to achieve the same end by one of two means: by capitalizing on the self-confidence we’ve built over the last astrological year to move forward with exciting plans, effectively laying the groundwork for another spectacular year; or by smashing your face in the proverbial ditch, forcing you to get your act together right here, right now because time’s run out and there’s nowhere left to go, my friend. Don’t be surprised if it feels like the Universe throws you on a treadmill flying top speed and screams RUN. Prep time’s over - the exam starts now. Aries energy is like a punch in the gut, a flash of sun in the eyes, a rough landing, a vicious fight; the ram only cares how strong and prepared you are. For the Pisces cycle, I recommended relaxing into the process so that you could more easily find the sunshine, but I’m going to suggest exactly the opposite now: it’s time to get tough.

Channeling cardinal energy

Under the influence of Aries cardinal energy we feel invincible. This cycle presents yet another opportunity to hit the restart button: your blank sheet of paper, New Year’s resolution, second chance. Passion and ambition link arms now. We are direct, focused and extraordinarily driven. Pain and suffering burn away in the face of Aries’ insistence on LIFE and HAPPINESS and MOVEMENT. This is it! You can let it all go now! Drop it into the belly of the blaze, watch it disappear in a column of sparkling orange smoke. Just when it seems that there will never be any method to the madness, the Universe comes along and grabs you full force by the ears: wake up! All of your progress will be illuminated now. Final results await you. First? First we have to run up this motherfuckin mountain.

We’re at the beginning of the the zodiac wheel, watching crimson fire ravage our soul forests. None of us will pass through this cycle without having to work - no, things will not just “fall into place.” Both Aries and Libra have demanding roles to play. The hard truth is that we must learn to love the Self before we can really love or support another. And you know what? It’s difficult, it’s so damn difficult, learning how to love yourself. That’s what the ram is really here to do. For so many, this is the defining quest. This is the journey of all journeys.

Burnin’ up

If Pisces is the last breath, Aries is the first. Did you know that the force with which newborns take their first breath exceeds our deepest inhale by tenfold? That first breath must be powerful enough to rip open the bronchial pathways for the very first time. The natural changes and endings heralded by the Pisces cycle were designed with something inconceivably magnificent in mind. Watch now as the Universe unveils that magnificence. You are in control. This is where the pen first touches the page; where the planets form; where the dust settles to reveal a space that is both empty and full. Recognize this cycle as a primordial period. This is only the beginning, the first clay molding. Do not attempt to create and analyze simultaneously.

What do you envision for the year ahead? With Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus respectively occupying each of the fire signs, this is a sublime occasion to ask for whatever we really want. Open from root to crown, chakras reenergized, raring to go. Fire energy is inherently liberating. You can and must reject doubt, insecurity and fear. Fire does not reflect. It simply moves. No thoughts or questions now as to whether or not you have become - you are. Balanced Aries are as humble as they are enthusiastic. The ram has the heart of a visionary. I expect that this transit will feel like the sunrise that follows a long night of grief. We’re all about to dance ecstatically upon the hearth of Life’s sacred fire. Here you are free to be yourself and no one else. Fill the dark sky with your light. You are being lifted now by an unseen force. Namaste.

Venus enters Aries - Feb 20, 2015

Venus transits Aries from February 20, 2015 - March 17

Click here to learn about Venus. Click here to learn about Aries.

Venus now moves from mutable water Pisces into cardinal fire sign Aries. Venus draws us closer to the Divine Feminine: romance, beauty, pleasure, happiness and fine art. As she moves from sign to sign, changes take place within the heart. Venusian energy concerns attraction: what vibes are you exuding and what attracts you? If Venus’ move into Pisces was the euphoria of lucidity, Venus in Aries is like sitting on top of Mount Everest watching the first sunrise of the year while a cosmic gong reverberates throughout the Universe. After slipping into the holy waters of the fishes for some emotional healing and constructive reflection, we’re ready to be reborn!

For the last month or so…

Venus in Pisces was soft and sentimental. We folded in to the Self to better understand our dreams, hopes and beliefs. Interpersonal relationships were sweet and compassionate when balanced; those who felt imbalanced may have struggled to express new insights gained from internal wandering. Pisces energy is not very clear or straightforward. Perhaps you felt something so strongly that it was radiating throughout your body, yet words completely escaped you. With Venus in Pisces, this inability to communicate can lead to passive aggression or unhealthy internalization. This transit was like being woven into a cocoon. Alone but not lonely, bound up with nothing but vivid thoughts and a beating heart to keep us going, how can we possibly transmute our experience from within? The balanced mind recognizes that this is not an obligation. To simply breathe and be is enough - your unique perception and reality belong only to you, so don’t worry about trying to make other people see in the way that you do. What to expect now as the Goddess of Love crackles in the primeval fires of the rugged ram?

I’m awake!

The move now is from a dreamy heart to a ravenous one. Aries is the first sign in the zodiac realm: the bugle call at dawn, hot blood pumping through the body, muscles straining, the fires of breakfast raging, screams of LIFE shattering the stillness. Aries does not think - Aries dances, jumps, runs, climbs, falls, gets up again, shoots, plunges, ducks, throws, spears, touches, grabs, pulls. Venus in Aries is loud and direct. Our basic needs and desires immediately come to the fore: sex, physical conditioning and hitting the reset button. Like a ram lowering its horns to smash through a wall, we’re ready now to change life as we know it without second thoughts, full speed ahead. Visualize a sprinter at the starting block, body quivering with adrenaline and anticipation. The cardinal modality manifests here in our soul’s great yearning for this body, mind and spirit awakening; all humans need this proverbial kick in the butt to remember how delicious it feels to be strong and active. We do create our own reality and can make choices that lend excitement to life. If you’ve fallen into a rut, Venus in Aries is here now to yank you back to square one. Just as when you injure yourself and must keep moving and walking normally to properly heal, it’s time to get back on the horse (ram) and continue riding like nothing unfortunate has ever happened to anyone - that is survival.

The relationship axis

You may recall that Venus transited the ram’s opposite sign (Libra) back in October 2014. Themes that surface now are a reflection of our progress since then. Venus is ruler of Libra, so she was “at home” during this time. Libra is calm, fair-minded, agreeable and feminine; Aries is active, impulsive, reckless and undeniably masculine. Libra speaks to our relationships with others, Aries to our relationship with the Self. When we think only of the Self, it can feel as though there is no need to go slowly - why take my time when there is only me? Venus in Aries has a wild streak. Nothing seems to come fast enough. We are given to stamping our little sheep hooves and demanding more from life when imbalanced. In moments where patience eludes you, meditate on the scales of Libra gleaming in the light of equilibrium. To make it through this transit without sticking any feet in your mouth, it is absolutely essential to weigh the pros and cons of a given situation, consider all sides and listen sincerely. Libra asks for harmony while Aries searches hungrily for battle - lose your ability to compromise even for a moment and watch conflict close in like a lean wolf at midnight.

Sourcing energy from life-giving fire

In her natural habitat, Venus enjoys a certain balance and levelheadedness. Normally she plays the part of peace keeper and diplomat. In Aries, this role is not always available. Venus in Aries acts now and thinks later. Watch for extreme urges and incurable restlessness. Aries emanates from the ego, so continue to ask yourself how and when you can be more empathic and accommodating. In the midst of our newfound thirst for life, it is easy to forget the needs of others. You don’t have to be selfless or self-absorbed, but rather perfectly between: find the Self reflected in strangers’ eyes. Remember that we all have common ground, that to share and co-create is essential. Venus in Aries might make it difficult now to communicate tactfully. Do not allow temporary disagreements to determine the ultimate fate of your relationships!

One major difference between the two ends of this axis lies in day-to-day preferences. Libra is indulgent, stylish, luxurious and pleasure-seeking, much like a Parisian house cat, whereas Aries is more than happy to keep things simple - no frills or addenda. Perhaps this is a reflection of the ram’s hotblooded propensities: I don’t have time for all this, just let me go outside and roll in the mud! This is how and where we derive satisfaction now: in the heat of exercise, in the glory of another morning and in the glow of a tribal bonfire billowing up to the stars.

Striving for balance

Thinking less and living more in the present moment is utterly vital and refreshing. Sitting and lounging around are no longer options. It’s time to get up and get out - inertia is now temporarily suspended, laziness evaporated. Ultimately what we learn from Venus in Aries is that it doesn’t matter how well we do anything - the real victory comes from simply doing. It is enough to be able to say: I climbed a mountain today, I ran around the block, I went to yoga or I rode my bike for an hour. Who cares that you barely made it, that you were covered in sweat and cursing your own mother as you inched forward? This is the true majesty of life: to let go and just be - to be content, nay, overjoyed with all that you are and and all that you do - no comparing or competing.

There is no desperation or moodiness to be found with Venus in Aries, just pure, unadulterated joy and sincerity. Embrace generosity, lightheartedness, humor and the delight of raw love. Step out of the fires of the soul every once in awhile to remain in tune with your surroundings. Gather information with a relaxed heart - open yourself to see and hear above the crashing and burning of the grand blaze within, as difficult though it may be to turn away from what is undoubtedly more exciting.

Once again, Venus leads ahead of the Sun, following Mars into the flames: a hint of what’s to come next month. Enjoy the rough edges, find their beauty. Peace. Bliss. Namaste.

Mars at home in Aries ♂ Feb 19 - Mar 31

Mars transits Aries from February 19, 2015 – March 31

Click here to learn about Mars. Click here to learn about Aries.

For the last month or so, Mars the Warrior has been swimming through Pisces. As predicted, I often felt stuck and frustrated - energy levels were low and motivation to overcome inertia was elusive. Mars was far from comfortable in Pisces, but he’s returning “home” now to cardinal fire sign Aries. What can we expect as Mars climbs his very own mountaintop once again to watch the sunrise over the crags and valleys of the ram?

Mars returns home

As each planet gravitates from sign to sign, subtle aspects of life on Earth shift accordingly. Martian transits shape the nature of our ambitions, physical drive and sexual urges. Martian power is sourced now from the primordial life-giving fires of the young, lusty ram. With Mars at home, we feel incredibly refreshed and invigorated. You’re going to wake up one day soon and say this! This is what I’ve been missing! Mars in Aries needs no incentive to leap out of bed, hike all day, make some scorching hot love and then do it all over. Get ready for a serious burst of physical and sexual energy. Unlike Mars in Pisces, this placement forces us to be less reflective and very active.

The battlefield ignites

Mars in Pisces was emotional, confusing and restless. Now Mars concerns himself again with areas of life that fall under the Divine Masculine: outward action, will power, recreation, competition, raw energy, direction and physical movement. If you found yourself resolving problems by means of internalization and passive aggression over the last few weeks, rest assured that conflicts will now be dealt with overtly and directly. Mars in Aries is just about as hot-blooded as you can get. Those of you who struggle to keep your cool in tense situations will have to try even harder now. Machismo and one-upmanship will be on full display for the next few weeks. Imbalanced Mars in Aries is trigger-happy, aggressive, reckless, forceful and potentially violent. If balanced, expect to feel sublimely energized from head to foot.

Titillation overdrive

You may now begin to cultivate a healthy new connection to your body. This might indicate a return to/establishment of a regular physical practice. Mars in Aries reminds us: it is absolutely crucial that we move and sweat every day! When it comes to sex - crave it, need it, can’t stop thinking about it, have to have it right now or I’m not going to make it through the day. This is why Aries is the sign of the ram; like the rest of the animals out there, we’ve got a one-track mind come springtime. Mars in Aries is simple and straightforward: sports, games and sex. We are no longer so inclined to talk and think about our hopes, wishes and deepest held beliefs - forget that, where’s the party and how fast can I get there? Aries energy is vast and molten, burning through space like a massive rainbow firework.

I expect that the pace of life will pick up considerably now. I’m personally very excited - feeling lazy and rundown all the time has proven to be quite challenging in its own way. Prepare to embark! The First Quarter marks the halfway point between the New and Full Moon. The First and Last Quarter Moon phases occur when the Moon squares the Sun at a 90 degree angle. In this particular phase, the Sun in cardinal earth sign Capricorn will square the Moon in cardinal fire sign Aries. From the Earth, the “right side” of the Moon is illuminated. The Moon will rise at noon, peak at dusk and set at midnight.

We are approaching a checkpoint

This phase is a checkpoint. What aspects of our initiatives have been successful thus far? Where do we need to work harder? It’s like creeping to the high point of a rollercoaster, represented by the Full Moon: a time when all undertakings are fully realized and answers to lingering questions brought to the fore. The Moon encourages you now to scope out flaws in the foundation laid with the New Moon in Capricorn. Are your ventures built to last?

The waxing light of the Moon symbolizes a return to total awareness. This is the best time to tweak and improve upon existing plans. At every Full Moon we conclude all that we have set out to do at the New Moon, so the week between the First Quarter Moon and the Full Moon (December 28 - January 4) is a very powerful time. If you have been diligent, expect to see your ideas come to fruition now.

Making way for the new

Squares mean change. We have reached a corner and must choose a new direction. The building energy and excitement you may feel now is there to inspire you and encourage decisive action, calculated risk-taking, networking and deepened commitment to personal growth. The Moon is asking you to gather yourself. This phase falls in cardinal signs, meaning that the most attractive path now will be one that is groundbreaking and pioneering. Our intention now is to build from the ground up. The Sagittarius cycle heralded definitive endings – now we harness the inaugural energy of the Capricorn cycle.

The First Quarter Moon falling in Aries represents a conflict between the Self and the proverbial father. It is important that we assert ourselves and protect our individuality but not at the cost of ignoring the very institutions and traditions which allow us to be independent. I like to visualize Capricorn as holding Aries back, inquiring of the ram whether or not we’ve considered all of our options. Precisely like a concerned father, the sea goat wants to make sure that our plans are sound and reasonable. Aries is impatient, being the first sign in the zodiac; there is a deep urge with this sign to break free, to run headfirst into the rising sun. Think of Aries as a reckless teenager chomping at the bit and screaming LET ME GO! The challenge is to move forward with our personal agenda while still respecting the customs and conventions that many hold so dear. From Capricorn we learn to be methodical and careful; from Aries we learn that we can still get by splendidly even if we chuck it all out the window and go for it wholeheartedly - no plan, no direction, just pure unbridled energy. At this time our desire to favor the Self will speak to the heart while the pull towards patriarchal appreciation will feel more like a duty.

When the Moon transits a fire sign, the vibrations around us are quite palpable. Expect people to be more feisty, animated and vigorous than usual. Aries is also known for having a temper. Know that the words and actions of this transit are the first whisperings before the beginning of the next cosmological cycle in spring. This phase of the Moon represents a return to square one. Think of a ram breaking through a wall – powerful, bold and potentially rash. So take lots of deep breaths - tune in - be present. You may recall that we had a Last Quarter Moon in Aries way back in July. This phase is a check-up on your progress since then. Any predominant themes at that time will now resurface.

This is not just a Full Moon but also a Lunar Eclipse, making it even more potent. This particular phase is known as the Full Hunter’s Moon and also as a “Blood Moon” as it will appear dark red at the time of the eclipse. The Moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise.

We now approach total opposition between the Sun in cardinal air Libra and the Moon in cardinal fire Aries: Self vs Other. Aries rules our relationship to the Self and Libra our relationships to others. The Aries-Libra polarity is between me and youI and we. Indeed, this particular dichotomy is known in astrology as the relationship axis. The cardinal nature of this polarity lies in the fact that our relationships form a foundation upon which everything else rests.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and as such the ram is pioneering and fearless. I like to visualize the ram at dawn, standing proudly at the top of a mountain, ready to welcome a new day, a new realm, a new cosmological cycle. Aries is associated with physical and sexual energy, masculinity and outward action. The ram teaches us the meaning of the following, written over the temple Delphi in ancient Greece: “Know thyself and thou shalt know the Universe and the gods.”

The Aries-Libra polarity presents us with the opportunity to achieve balance between our independence and dependence upon others. Unlike Libra, ardent keeper of the peace between all people, Aries energy is self-assertive, drawing us back again and again to the ego. The Moon in Aries encourages us to be bold, to take action. Aries would rather be brutally honest than tactful. However, we may learn now that our dreams and goals are made possible only when we are gracious to others. A karmic lesson may come now when, for example, we attempt to start a big project and succeed thanks to the support of a partner.

Although the Full Moon always makes us feel more emotional and reflective than usual, Aries energy partially overrides this effect. We are confident and courageous, ready to move and do. The ram helps us to get in touch with our inner leader. Our attention is directed towards all that is external. Like a new star in the sky or a butterfly opening its wings, we bloom, stretch, reach — dancing joyously as though we have just discovered the magic of our bodies.

This Full Moon encourages us to examine how well we are meeting the needs of both the Self and others. The ram wants us to charge full speed ahead with our brilliant personal agenda; the scale asks us to remain balanced, egalitarian and diplomatic. As with any polarity in astrology, our utmost duty is to be aware of how well we are doing on each end of the spectrum. For example, Libra desires, first and foremost, that we simply recognize the supreme power of compromise, the beauty of sharing and the art of respectful negotiation.

The energy of this transit is fiery and impulsive. When taken to the extreme, we may be reckless or quick to anger. Aries favors the following activities: exploration, intense physical exercise, dancing, journaling, self-care, meditation and yoga poses that awaken the kundalini. Expect this Full Moon to be quite powerful. If balanced, we will feel enlightened, empowered and alive. How appropriate that the Moon will be blood red in honor of the zealous ram!

This Lunar Eclipse is actually just one in a series of eclipses falling in the Aries-Libra opposition that began in October 2013 and will continue through March 2016. You might see this as the Universe’s way of pushing us to address issues related to this axis. Each eclipse is like a check-up on our progress. On October 23, we have a Solar Eclipse too!

I would like to emphasize, once again, that this Full Moon will probably be very intense. Lunar Eclipses tend to be dramatic, forceful and passionate. This phase also marks the midpoint of the astrological year, beginning in late March with the New Moon in Aries. In many ways, we are rapidly approaching a major evaluation of the Self and all that surrounds the Self.

From CafeAstrology:

Note that whatever happens at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside of us and emotions have been building.

YOGA CHALLENGE

Virabadhrasana, warrior poses, are an excellent choice for this Full Moon. When our feet are spread wide on the mat in Warrior 1 and 2, Crescent Warrior or even trikonasana, triangle pose, it is important to charge up the legs. We can do this by lifting the toes and rooting deeply into the corners of the feet. Press through the center of the back foot and then energetically draw the feet together, as though you are trying to bunch up your mat. Ground down through the inner corners of the feet and then expand out in every direction so that it feels like your legs are growing longer! What makes you feel like a warrior?
