The frisky Sun in Leo squares the potent moon in Scorpio. The moon will rise at noon, peak at dusk and set at midnight all over the world, no matter your time zone. The moon is waxing, gathering momentum for fullness. The moon initially enters Scorpio on Aug 6, hangs here until Aug 8 (the day after the quarter moon), then moves on to Sagittarius for the next 60-hour round, then Capricorn, and so on and so forth. The moon completes her revolution around the earth in 29 days, but since the earth is also moving around the sun, the moon completes her revolution through the zodiac in just 27.33 days. On Aug 13 the moon enters Aquarius, marking the beginning of full moon time!
Our eyes are freshly cleared by the new moon – now what? At the first quarter, we address precisely this question of now what, where to go, what to do? Quarter moons prompt definitive change. They represent a turning point.
Here we are on the lion path: a fierce encounter with Scorpio. Together Leo and Scorpio render transformation of the ego, psyche and desire nature. This quarter moon addresses trust and control issues. Once we are clear on those, life is so much more fulfilling.
Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system, and Scorpio by Pluto, the planet farthest from center. Imagine the Sun and Pluto stretching their arms out into the vastness, intertwining in some remote asteroid belt. Within you there is an equally vast distance which must be overcome. The center of centers reaches out to the extremes. This is what we must collate and reconcile.
As archetypes, Leo and Scorpio have little in common besides their fixed nature. Leo is the radiant prince of the zodiac, Scorpio the brooding realist with dwindling faith in humanity. Scorpio is not a lighthearted critter. The only thing she fears is being powerless; the art she masters is that of letting go. A high vibration relationship to the lion and scorpion looks like: self-confidence (Leo) and self-empowerment (Scorpio).
Scorpio is the sign of joint wealth and inheritance. You may receive unexpected gifts or accommodations. Or you might not! What we want vs. what we receive may appear to be different, but they are not. The physical mind is not designed to understand this discrepancy – only the higher mind knows ~
This quarter moon will loosely square Venus in Leo. Interpersonal tension is definitely a possibility. If you’re spending time with family, be extra patient – prepare yourself ahead of time to see the same patterns, hear the same stories, etc. Leo and Scorpio are not known for staying quiet and chill, but anything is possible. Gather all of your power inside of you, be a witness to your own behavior and reactions. Remember that this quarter moon is about trust and control – and it begins within, baby. All of that hippie bullshit about finding your center isn’t bullshit anymore when the challenge is sitting right next to you. Meditate on words like grace and charm and ease. Speak your mind without being hostile or judgmental.
Connect with the water element in a bath, ocean or hot springs. Visualize abundance, comfort and tranquility. Find a cool, quiet place to rest. Sit by the lake late at night. Resist the urge to dwell in old stories or old pains. Embrace uncertainty; trust in the unseen. It is neither our privilege nor our burden to know what comes next. Assume nothing!
