Mercury in Aquarius ☿ Feb 13 - Mar 5

Jan 1 - 8 then, due to a retrograde period, Feb 13 - Mar 5, 2016

Click here to learn about Mercury. Click here to learn about Aquarius.

Mercury in Aquarius has the confidence to finally say whatever has been ripening slowly over time. However. HOWEVER! The water bearer is an unusually quarrelsome creature, despite being remarkably open-minded and socially tolerant. Ruled by Uranus, the freedom-at-all-costs rebel of the zodiac, Aquarius hates nothing more than feeling disrespected or unaccepted for exactly who he is and what he does. Mercury in Aquarius is childlike in enthusiasm and expression as well as in headstrong moments. He can be stubborn, almost forceful. On the other hand, Mercury in Aquarius is incredibly community-oriented and energetic. The water bearer is a social butterfly who loves long, meandering conversations about anything and everything.

Aquarius is easy to talk to but does not often give great advice as he is so unique and his vision so grand that his wisdom ends up being quite esoteric, although perfectly valid! Mercury in Aquarius is undeniably intellectual with lightning wit. It may be challenging to stay connected to both the heart and the mind; diehard rationalists leave little room for sentiment. We may come off as cold and uncaring, so keep a constant pulse on the emotional body of the collective.

When Mercury, ruler of the mind, teams up with Aquarius the non-conformist, it’s time to cultivate progressive ideas that push the boundaries of reality and social acceptability. Mercury in Aquarius could not care less about what other people are doing. He is serious about one thing: change, revolution. Expect to feel curious, excitable and ready for adventure.

Mercury in Aquarius has unquenchable thirst for knowledge and original ideas. As a spirited and spontaneous entity, he is notorious for hopping all over the place, conversationally speaking and otherwise. Mercury in Aquarius is scientific, analytical, radical and inventive, but not necessarily precise or patient. You may not be able to sit still or keep quiet for long here. Focus on wholeness: complete thoughts and sentences. Mercury in Aquarius energy is potentially volatile. Risk-taking is natural and deeply satisfying now.

Now we turn to our social circle and big plans for the future. Mercury in Aquarius also encourages us to thoroughly examine how we know what we know. Prepare to be reengaged with the source of your own organic brilliance and inner wisdom. It’s time to break out of mindsets that have calcified over time and no longer serve you. In particular, Mercury in Aquarius directs our attention toward aspects of life that may have become too emotionally charged. We can make change now while remaining comfortably detached, unconcerned with how or when things will happen. Visualize a gale force wind rearranging and readjusting. All of the projects and goals and ideas dancing in your psyche are just waiting to burst forth in an explosion of color and heat. Other possibilities for this transit: exploring fringe/alternative activities; developing your faith in humanity; connecting to anything and everything outside the Self – connecting to the Oneness which gives perfect meaning to each and every individual. Clear the cobwebs and get funky, you creative and ingenious people.

If you were born with Mercury in Aquarius, these next few months include your Mercury Return. To find your Mercury sign and whether he was direct or retrograde at the time of your birth, click here.

Venus in Sagittarius ⚢ Dec 30 - Jan 23

Dec 30, 2015 – Jan 23, 2016

Click here to learn about Venus. Click here to learn about Sagittarius.

Venus in Scorpio has been just as inspiring as it has been challenging. Scorpio is the sign of transformation and rebirth, but we are graced by this new light only after the wounded heart, the spirit’s agony. Under this influence, Venus is suspicious, probing, beholden to compulsions. So the Goddess of Love will now burn through Sagittarius for a little pick-me-up. Although the Sagittarius season has just ended, we’ll revisit the party to catch his luckiest stars. Venus last transited Sagittarius from Nov-Dec 2014. Themes that surface now are a reflection of our progress since then.

Dialing back for a moment, I remember the day Venus entered Scorpio. I had an energetic release that left my entire face numb and tears leaking into my ears. This was the first whisper of the scorpion’s ultimate lesson: not until we break down do we break through. At the beginning of this transit, the scorpion unsheathed her stinger, poised to destroy, but just as Shiva rebuilds the world from utter ruin, so too does the powerful scorpion. In the end, this transit was less about sex than it was healthy self-discovery. The passion we sought in interpersonal relationships was really intended for fierce Self-love. I learned once again that the most meaningful and important connection we’ll ever make in life is with the Self.

Now we have Venus in Sagittarius where she’ll be in great need of stimulation. Time to go out meeting people and mixing it up. Sagittarius is a restless beast who must wander freely, dashing this way and that, excitedly and endlessly exploring.

I’ve learned by now that Sagittarius is not all sunshine and rainbows. The centaur archer’s ultimate lesson is justice and Truth. You may run until you can’t breathe anymore, but these horse legs do not tire, my friend. Speak your truth now lest it rears its magnificent head in the middle of a would-be sparkling holiday chit-chat. Venus in Sagittarius glimmers and gleams beneath the light, so that’s where she prefers to stay. Forget grand ideals and fairness for all; if Truth abides somewhere cold or dark or desolate, Venus in Sagittarius will immediately speed off toward the nearest star. Resist the urge to flee. A few lines from Jelaluddin Rumi’s poem titled Tattooing in Qazwin: “Brother, stand the pain. / Escape the poison of your impulses. / The sky will bow to your beauty, if you do. / Learn to light the candle.”

I visualize Venus in Sag as a party to which everyone is invited. Sagittarius is a web of acquaintances; abiding faith in humanity; spontaneous conversation with a stranger; good vibrations; a carefree attitude. We are determined to expand now, particularly through higher learning. You may talk more about philosophical subjects, for example. The centaur archer is not known for being deep or intense, but that does not mean that he is not profound or insightful in his own lighthearted way.

Bumps and bruises sustained during Venus in Scorpio will heal now. Take a deep breath and relax, ascend from the scorpion’s deep black cave. Venus in Sagittarius draws us out and into our surroundings. Suddenly the gigantic supernatural whirlpool in the heart bursts forth with a sigh of relief (feeling -> moving).

What do we gain by focusing on the negative? Nothing! I find it helpful to illuminate what to watch out for, but I really hope you just climb on the centaur’s back without a second thought and rocket toward the next brilliant horizon.

You have a choice, standing here with nothing left between you and Truth. We fool ourselves into believing otherwise, but there is no separation. May you feel empowered, may you hold strong. Say it kindly, whatever it is. Step in to the light without guilt or judgment and don’t look away. I suggest a ritual involving fire and/or some Sagittarius Yoga.

Full Moon at home in Cancer ♋ Dec 25, 2015

Friday, Dec 25 at 6.11 am EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Cancer.

This particular Full Moon is known as the Full Wolf Moon. Cold and hungry, packs of wolves would howl through the night around Native American villages. The last Full Moon in Cancer fell on January 4, 2015. Any themes/conflicts that predominated then will now resurface. The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise.

The Sun and Moon in total opposition between Capricorn and Cancer: divine masculine vs. divine feminine. Luna rounds herself to majesty just days after the Sun enters Capricorn. Still building on the energetic theme of speedy manifestation, coming up to base camp sooner than expected. We meet in the ocean now.

You may recall that the Moon rules Cancer. When a planet returns to the sign it rules, we say in astrology that this planet is “at home.” The Full Moon in Cancer is as lunar as you can get. In classic astrology, Cancer is associated with home, children, family, protection, emotion and intuition - I would say that Cancer feels like home - lots of double meanings here as the moon is indeed “at home” during this phase AND Cancer’s mantra is “I feel.” Cancer is known for her exceptional artistic abilities and keen interest in cats, baking, fantasy/sci-fi, music and dancing. Cancer is the sign of the crab. Those born with strong Cancer energy move slowly and cautiously as they are quite susceptible to the vibrations of people and places. The psychic membrane separating Cancer from the external world is thin and porous. Due to this, crab types are easily overwhelmed. On the upside, this sensitivity makes Cancer uncommonly understanding, empathic and sincere. As cardinal signs, balanced Cancers are usually able to keep it together pretty well during tense moments, but at the first opportunity, they have to let it all out.

The Cancer-Capricorn polarity is between the heart and the head, although this is a bit of an oversimplification. More accurately: Cancers see the heart as an organic and integral source of information, as do Capricorns, but the goat struggles to collate what he feels versus what he thinks he should feel. Cancer and Capricorn gravitate toward a life/reality that feels safe and centered. For example, both the crab and the sea goat love to cuddle, stay in bed all day, lounge around the house in pajamas and eat everything in sight! This axis seeks relationships/environments which promise longevity, stability and security. It is no small deal when the sea goat or crab devote themselves to another. However, the sea goat would do well to be more free and open in the heart. Cancer could likewise better learn to employ rationalism when her huge heart defeats the logical mind. Too much Capricorn makes us rigid and pessimistic. Too much Cancer makes us wail and worry.

With this full moon falling on Christmas Day, there may be some unwanted emotional drama, but the good news is that the crab and sea goat will work in tandem to make us feel as comfortable as possible, whether surrounded by family, friends or traveling solo on some great adventure. I suggest a ritual involving water and/or some Cancer Yoga.

Sun in Capricorn ☼ Dec 21 - Jan 20

Dec 21, 2015 – Jan 20, 2016

Click here to learn about the Sun. Click here to learn about Capricorn.

Disclaimer: The Sun sign is a much-celebrated, often oversimplified astrological element. Remember – you embody a whole soup of planets!

Ever since Venus moved into Scorpio a few weeks ago, I’ve been emotionally exhausted. And, once again, I underestimated the power of the Sagittarius cycle and its real purpose, which would be the illumination of TRUTH. This insane little planet hurtling through space seems to be fraying quickly. Every day we descend exponentially deeper into a pool of chaos and violence. More than ever before it’s imperative that we SHINE our light. We’re settling in to the upper echelon of the zodiac wheel, next stop Capricorn. Deep breaths now, rest your bones here awhile.

Sagittarius and Libra both turned it up a notch this year. Just when you think you know what’s coming, these celestial entities grabbed me by my soul’s collar and said NOPE, try again, my friend. So I’m feeling a little more drained than I thought I would be at this point, but who doesn’t love surprises eh?

The Capricorn cycle heralds the Divine Masculine. As an earth sign, Capricorn also grounds and stabilizes us in whatever/wherever we happen to be in life. Since he is the last earth sign of the zodiac wheel, I see this phase as resolute culmination, the last pouring of the concrete, if you will. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the iron fist of the solar system. The sea goat is therefore often one to believe that things absolutely must be done a certain way. More precisely, they must be done the conventional way. You may notice that the people who enter your life at this time are hung up on this notion. Capricorn understands better than anyone that we do our best work when we are deliberate yet efficient, but the greatest challenge now is simply remembering to smile and shake it off. It is very important to keep it light during this cycle.

The sea goat enjoys deep conversations as long as the subject material is not too intangible. I like to visualize this cardinal sign as an axis, a foundation, the face of a clock - anything that draws us to what is. Capricorn is a realist. What could or should be does not interest the goat. There is certain comfort in knowing what to expect and planning accordingly. You can see why the goat has a reputation for being a little boring. This stiffness stems from the way Capricorns carry themselves, as they are not prone to being bubbly or outwardly emotive. This is not to say that Capricorns don’t like to party – if anything, they go really hard and then feel the most guilty about it.

Watch for a tendency to be critical of the Self and others. Capricorns set the bar high then struggle to understand why everyone else can’t keep up. The goat would do well to have more empathy and compassion for the Self. Embrace structure and discipline as worthy tools for reorganizing your life and providing a bit of direction, but don’t ignore your heart in the process.

Unlike Sagittarius, the goat is willing and able to move slowly…maybe too slowly. If you are like me and have heavy earth energy in your chart, this time of year probably signals hibernation. Like clockwork, when the Sun moves into Capricorn, I hit the sheets bear-human style. Overcoming inertia…not impossible, but pretty damn close.

This is the time of year to just DO IT – no second thoughts. Dive right in. Whether that means welcoming some discipline into your life or surrounding yourself with people who embody the positive qualities of the sea goat, smile and accept this gift knocking at your soul’s door. Of course this is also Christmastime for many humans around the world. What better way to honor the sea goat’s love of tradition and ritual than by enacting our own, year after year? My only prescription is surrender through laughter. Open up, everyone. We’re still here, trying to figure this shit out. Big belly laughs. Put your feet up next to the people you love. Wrap yourself in a huge furry blanket by the fire.

The Sun last transited Capricorn from Dec 21, 2014 – Jan 20, 2015. Any themes/conflicts that predominated then will now resurface.

First Quarter Moon in Pisces ☽ Dec 18, 2015

Friday Dec 18 at 10.14 am EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Pisces.

Seen from above, the First Quarter Moon forms a 90º angle to an invisible line running through the Earth to the sun, hence “square” for the name of this astrological aspect. In this particular phase, the Sun in Sagittarius squares the moon in Pisces. The moon will rise at noon, peak at dusk and set at midnight.

Quarter moon phases are especially trying – think sharp, angular junctions prompting change. As CafeAstrology notes, quarter phases are a “crisis of consciousness.” The waxing moon symbolizes a return to awareness and serves as the best time to tweak and improve upon existing strategies. The week between the first quarter and full moon (Dec 18-25) is the most potent of the lunar cycle.

We have reached a corner and must choose a direction. The building energy in our skies is there to inspire you. This phase encourages decisive action, calculated risk-taking and deepened commitment to personal growth. It’s time to gather the Self.

I’m writing with a heavy heart. I don’t know if it’s just me or if I’m picking up on something global. Lately I’m learning the same thing over and over: listen to your intuition and spend time only with people who uplift and inspire!

This moon phase falls in the last sign of the zodiac wheel, so we are approaching the proverbial death of one era and the beginning of another. Any and all astrological goings-on in Pisces represent endings and resolution. This is a highly emotional time when we are asked to say goodbye to that which no longer serves us.

The fishes ask us to rest and reflect. If we don’t do this during the Sagittarius season, we are whisked away on a rainbow road of unchecked idealism and frenzied excitement. Even when we want SO badly for something to work, we must have the strength to be honest about what isn’t working. This is not an easy time. The purpose of this quarter moon is deep introspection (Pisces) overlaying active change in direction (Sagittarius). Both the fishes and the centaur archer have a habit of moving away from the shadows, but how will we grow if we never acknowledge the darkest parts of the Self?

Pisces encourages us to contemplate and then recharge. The centaur archer must realize that this is in fact a very important step in the process of doing and becoming. If we do not give ourselves the opportunity to let it all sink in, we fail to gain the proper insight needed to effectively move forward. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and observe. I think it’s best to stay in and do nothing. It is always tempting during the Sagittarius cycle to give, give, give until we are exhausted. We must be steady enough to hold and shoot the bow of the archer and sensitive enough to care for our fishes in the heart, swimming silently yet constantly, forever chasing tails. Peace to you on the last leg of this difficult journey.

The First Quarter Moon in Pisces last fell at the end of November 2014. Any themes that predominated then will now resurface. I suggest a ritual involving water or some Pisces Yoga.

New Moon in Sagittarius ♐ Dec 11, 2015

Friday, Dec 11 at 5:29 am EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Sagittarius.

If you read my post on the Sagittarius season that we’re currently burning through, you might wonder why it’s been so difficult. Here’s to hoping that the New Moon in Sagittarius will allow us to experience the more positive qualities of the centaur archer. The last New Moon in Sagittarius fell on November 22, 2014. Any themes/conflicts that predominated then will now resurface.

This cycle started with a New Moon in Scorpio and that may be why there’s a disconnect right now between our plans/intentions and the reality of daily life. The emotionally volatile scorpion is hanging on for longer than desirable, dragging us relentlessly into the shadowy depths of our psyche’s unfinished work. This new moon is going to lift us to where we really want to be: cleared out, elevated, ready to move forward.

Right now we have an over-abundance of frankness, and, conversely, escapism and denial. The archer does not want to look anything squarely in the eye if it’s less than perfectly jovial. However, we cannot continue on until we do exactly this. I know we’re all craving Sagittarian buoyancy, but we’ve got work to wrap up before we step completely into his effervescent flames. The days leading up to this new moon will be crucial – are you going to prepare on your own, or will you be faced with a situation more uncomfortable than you could have possibly imagined? Sagittarius asks us to consider our direction in life. We are encouraged in particular to examine how and what we are learning: is your garnered wisdom properly settling in as comprehension, or are you blocking out these lessons?

Maybe this is exactly how it needs to happen – a couple weeks to see just how complicated life can get when you pretend that it’s not complicated – and then Sagittarius will grab us, throw us on his back and off we go into the next constellation with a fiery sonic boom. The centaur archer loves to travel both in body and in mind. For this sign, learning is a gateway to higher states. In acquiring a broader knowledge base, we come ever closer to achieving true liberation. The centaur archer thrives on all things inspirational: witnessing and being part of a magnanimous web of people; hope, optimism and idealism; sports, music, parties and dancing; justice and fairness for all; seeking, wandering, flying, yearning, free-wheeling and good old-fashioned adventures; excitement, expansion and growth of all kinds; ideas and concepts that illuminate.

This scorpion energy still raining down can be depressing. Sagittarius says we’re ready, and have been for awhile, to leave this year behind and never look back. And yet something dense and icy lingers with impressive strength. Let’s remove the skeletons, sweep out the closet and make room for fresh arrivals. The Scorpio cycle forced us to get to the root of things. Using this root as a base, now we jump off into the unknown.

The New Moon in Sagittarius asks us to surround the Self with other people, and in so doing, we more rapidly transition from one state to another. More interactions means more opportunities to bounce ideas around, share new insights and expand upon philosophical queries. This period is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when we come out of isolation and rejoin the collective. The centaur archer is usually the epicenter of any given social sphere. You would be hard-pressed to find an introverted Sagittarius!

Allow this fire to act as a catalyst for understanding and forgiveness. Just as fire burns a forest and prepares the way for rebirth, so too can the fires of the archer help you start over. Throw it all in the flames – let it die so that new things may enter. Release what you have so that you may reach for what comes next. I think I’m just really beginning to grasp the true meaning of Saturn in Sagittarius, happening now…check it out.

For the new moon, I suggest a ritual involving fire and/or a big party :)

Mercury in Capricorn ☿ Dec 9 - Jan 1

Dec 9, 2015 – Jan 1, 2016

Click here to learn about Mercury. Click here to learn about Capricorn.

In my recent post on Mercury’s transit in Sagittarius, I wrote about the centaur archer as a blunt and honest creature. Well hot DAMN he did not hold back this year folks! The name of the game these last couple weeks has most definitely been Truth. Bombs were dropped and some friendships ended, but we’re moving on with Mercury now entering Capricorn, first planet of the season to do so. The sea goat is one beast I’m still trying to better understand. Capricorn’s mantra is I use, so with Mercury here, we examine the applicability of our thoughts and words. Definitely less exciting than Sagittarius, but I’m not complaining about that.

One thing I have observed about Capricorn is his innate ability to carry on, carry on, carry on. The sea goat climbs with sure, steady feet up the mountainside. Ruled by Saturn, all-business-and-no-games boring uncle of the zodiac, Capricorn struggles to free himself, and what’s holding him down could be anything. This means that the tightness and constriction may all be in the head. In any case, there’s something rigid in the sea goat’s psyche. The sea goat finds infinite comfort in structure and discipline, and he both admires and emulates those in positions of authority.

The sea goat does not like to take risks, as these inevitably lead (if only in his mind) to a long and painful fall. Detecting a theme here? Many of the restrictions that we talk about with Capricorn originate from the goat himself. Don’t be so hard on yourself, Cappys. When I visualize this sign, I feel a strain in my body. The goat sets and maintains extremely high standards, both for the Self and others. One of the greatest challenges for Capricorn is to lighten up! Don’t be so critical of everything (read: the Self)! Although you may feel like you will “lose everything” in saying the wrong thing, this is an illusion. What you should say is not always what you need to say.

Mercury in Capricorn leaves no room for sentimental anecdotes, wishy-washy ideals or rambling tangents. This is a good time to get organized and refocus on projects/plans/goals that have been ditched in favor of wild Sagittarian adventures, although this may feel impossible considering the insane pace of this year. I promise that the rhythm of life will slow as we wade deeper into the Capricorn season. I like the sea goat because he is deliberate and cautious - maybe too cautious sometimes. He’s not racing ahead to the next most enticing thing. The sea goat prefers to study. I visualize Mercury in Capricorn as an enormous library with heavy wooden paneling, thick carpets and thousands of intricate volumes. Here we want not only to know, but to know how.

Capricorn has a reputation for being old-fashioned. This is not how I would describe Mercury in his natural habitat. As a result, you may feel stuck when it comes to communicating your heart. The sea goat is not prone to open emotional expression so just SAY IT. Capricorn reels us back to center with his overwhelming need for life to operate smoothly and efficiently. He’s the proverbial father figure instilling order to the chaos. Focus on contraction: ask yourself where and when life feels excessive or out of control. This should all be a welcome change, although you may feel like life is giving you constant reality checks. This is not a particularly social phase but you can expect others to be conventionally polite, even hesitant.

Mercury last transited Capricorn from Dec 16, 2014 – Jan 4, 2015. Any themes/conflicts that predominated then will now resurface.

Venus in Scorpio ⚢ Dec 4 - 30

December 4 - 30, 2015

Click here to learn about Venus. Click here to learn about Scorpio.

Venus has been hanging out in Libra since November 8. Tough stuff, seriously. I’m glad it’s ending. The Scorpio season is long over, but let’s revisit her lair for the next few weeks on the wings of Venus, Goddess of Love. Venus last transited Scorpio in October/November 2014. Themes that surface now are a reflection of our progress since then.

I distinctly remember the day Venus entered Libra. Heavy relationship issues were broached - finally - and then released with a torrent of love and understanding. I looked forward to a magical few weeks of easy breezy smiles and sunshine. But damn, Libra is a sneaky goddess! Just when you think she’s left you to your own devices, SLAM, suddenly you’re neck-deep in something really nasty. To be honest, I’m not sure I passed her test this time. We’re still getting to know each other, Libra and I. Let it suffice to say that I am continually impressed and surprised by her tenacity. In any case, congratulations everyone on making it through the past three weeks :)

Now we have Venus in Scorpio: unadulterated passion, powerful, transformative, craving profound soul connections and sexual transcendence. Drunk on the sheer intensity of emotion, our wants become needs. Scorpio’s mantra is I desire…sexy sexy.

Make no mistake, the scorpion is fixed in nature, fiercely driven by lust. Scorpio stops at nothing to get her fix, whatever it may be. We’ll get to the bottom of things, whether we want to or not, as the scorpion is unsatisfied with surface living. She is extreme, all or nothing, intimate, sensual. Love is ardent with Venus in Scorpio. You may have the urge to become so close to someone that attraction consumes you entirely, but this you won’t mind. Singular, blinding, unstoppable, uninterested in small talk or superficiality, Scorpio loves the ocean floor, the psyche’s dark well, the locked basement closet – but why? Diving to the bottom brings us to the breaking point, breaking through. Blackest black gives way to overwhelming light, blotting out even the Self…enlightenment. This is the true goal of the scorpion, to find the edge and then careen at full speed straight into the abyss: renewal through obliteration.

Venus in Scorpio represents divine eternal union, the stitching together of yin and yang. When taken to the extreme, she is suspicious, possessive, jealous. This shadow is rooted in the fear of losing power. In classic astrology, the scorpion is associated with greed, control and fear. When this water element is flowing properly, there’s nothing but spirit. It’s time to test the strength of your intuition and faith in the Universe.

I would love to tell you that the drama’s over, but the scorpion feels more alive when there is a crisis at hand! Because she is so enamored by complexity and volatility, relationships often suffer during this transit. Venus in Scorpio has lots of feelings and sexual/emotional/psychic energy, so things are bound to get messy at times. Venus in Scorpio is drawn to all things taboo, morbid, sexually aberrant, mystical and metaphysical.

Enter the heart and gut and you’ll find the scorpion swimming, swirling, feeling, creating a gigantic supernatural whirlpool. She’s a hot-blooded kiss on the lips, fervent, vehement, chasing her prey with all of her being. Dig in, ask yourself what is the meaning? Twist in, penetrate to the core. Feel out your surroundings through the subconscious.

Scorpio hates feeling vulnerable, and yet, strangely enough, this is what she desires most: soul stripped naked, nothing left between her and Truth. She wants to be taken care of, but not used. Supported, but still empowered. The Goddess of Night enjoys shocking people. This should not be taken too seriously. Let her be dark. Her words and actions are a performance, a way for others to see the witches’ dance within her. Enjoy the show.

Last Quarter Moon in Virgo ☾ Dec 3, 2015

Thursday, Dec 3 at 2:40am EST

Click here to learn about the Moon. Click here to learn about Virgo.

The Sun in Sagittarius squares the moon in Virgo. The moon will rise at midnight, peak at dawn and set at noon. If you view the moon at midnight, the Sun will be positioned directly beneath your feet. Staring at the moon during this time will align you so that you are looking right out (approximately) along the forward path of Earth’s orbit around the Sun ^__^ The Last Quarter Moon in Virgo last fell on December 14, 2014. Any themes/conflicts that predominated then will now resurface.

For those who are strongly affected by lunar energy, quarter moon phases can be extremely emotional. Square aspects are sharp, angular junctions that prompt change. As CafeAstrology notes, these phases feel like a “crisis of consciousness.” Be compassionate with yourself.

Now that we’re in the Sagittarius cycle all I can say is DANG…life is moving even more quickly. And how about that Full Moon in Gemini last week? Ended up being pretty insane, if I do say so. I apologize for my tardiness on this post, I’ve been running all over and dealing with some bullshit but I’m back, hi! The moon moved into Virgo while I was sleeping last night. I had a dream about my best Virgo friend, but most of the night I was awake, nervous, writhing with butterflies in my belly. Virgo rules the nervous system and digestive process so this comes as no surprise. Sensitive creatures we moonfolk are!

I woke up hella early this morning and if you can’t tell, I have enough energy to power an entire city right now. This is how Virgo says HELLO get up we have much to accomplish. I’m interpreting this quarter moon as a return to our theme for the entire year, colored by Jupiter in Virgo. If you haven’t read that post, I highly recommend doing so. Should give you a better idea of what I’m talking about with all this potent Virgo ENERGY.

I don’t think you will need coffee today or tomorrow. We’re dealing with a mega dose of mutable presence in our skies. This means we are stimulated by the cosmos, intellectual curiosity piqued, body raring to go. You may find yourself talking and socializing more than usual but! But! Be careful not to be overly critical of yourself and others, as this is most definitely Virgo’s greatest downfall. I know it feels delicious to sit down with your friends and have a good old-fashioned gossip session, just reign in the bite. This may prove especially difficult in light of all the drama recently.

Normally when we have a moon phase in Virgo, I would remind you to focus and be diligent in work-related sectors, blah blah blah. But when we’re talking about a Sagittarius-Virgo combination in the celestesphere, there’s no way that any of us will be able to focus on anything. The Virgo moon is whirling back right now for the first time since September, popping her head in the door and, with uncharacteristic enthusiasm, screaming: HEY! Did you forget about how crazy this year continues to be! Ok!

Virgo is not flawless. She turns her turmoil inward with a dazzling display of dizzying anxiety and indiscrete perfectionism. Virgo is much like the vata dosha of Ayurvedic medicine - look it up! You can search for “anti vata diet” on the interwebs if you, like me, are experiencing nervous stomach issues. I think it’s better to eat less but more frequently when the moon sails through Virgo.

Be alert, but not controlling. Virgo tenses up easily and then she just can’t stop thinking about everything – don’t do it! Recognize when those thoughts bubble up and then do something active that gets you out of the mind and into the body. If you’re feeling imbalanced, treat this for what it is: a phase, nothing more. Oh, and deep breaths :) I suggest a hike and/or some Virgo Yoga.

Still building on the energetic theme of speedy manifestation, coming up to base camp sooner than expected. We’ll be meeting in the social sphere, chatting away as Gemini does best. The greatest challenge for Gemini is stilling the mind. Out of all the signs, the twins are undoubtedly the least calm.

On the Full Moon in Gemini last year I found myself at a party. We had the social [Gemini] element, and what were we doing there? Tuning up skis and snowboards for an active [Sagittarius] winter season. Tucked away in couch corners with close friends, idly snipping words and beers and crackers, TV blaring ski videos, hippies in beanies laughing raucously in the garage as they waxed their snow devices. Here Gemini sat and talked while Sagittarius ambled around the house dreaming of gnarly slopes. For a time, we coexisted together, the motormouths and the adrenaline junkies, sharing hot chili and cider. We’ve reached this juncture once again and if you’re not excited yet…!

Some interpretations of Gemini suggest that he never ventures beyond his comfort zone. However, this comfort zone seems to only encompass the habits and mental patterns of the individual, because when it comes to traveling, changing appearances and switching careers, no one is more masterful than Gemini. This is the paradox of the twins: although they’re holing up at the party, lean in to hear them recount at light speed a plenitude of far-flung experiences. Sagittarius may glance over and dismiss these sprightly little air creatures as conceited or verbose, but in so doing, he misses the glory of the human mind on full display. Likewise, Gemini may scoff at Sagittarius’ constant need for physical movement, seemingly always on his own personal quest for the greater and grander, rather than bask in raw bodily enthusiasm, the purest encapsulation of joy in manifest form.

There is a certain seriousness to the unemotional, ultra rational approach of the twins. Gemini immediately resorts to logic and talking/writing through things in order to understand them intellectually, but there are some things in life that simply must be experienced in order to be known: as Tao master Lao Tzu decried, the way that can be named is not the Way. Sagittarius is anything but serious. Too much Sagittarius makes life feel hurried, vague and uninformed. Too much Gemini makes us tight and rigid, seated firmly in the waking, active, thinking mind. Gemini wants to categorize, discern, label, sort, identify. However, the twins remind the centaur archer that there is much to be gained from precision and accuracy.

Unleash your inner writer/poet/artist to properly channel the cyclone of thoughts billowing round your golden mind at this time. Tune in, find the realness, figure out which ideas are gravy. I suggest calling up all your homies and/or practicing some Gemini Yoga.
