This full moon is the biggest supermoon of 2019! It’s the second of three supermoons in 2019, all happening right in a row (Jan, Feb and March) – and this one is the closest and largest!! A supermoon can be a full moon or new moon, occurring when the moon is at perigee or within 90% of perigee (the point at which the moon is nearest to the earth in her monthly orbit). Sun and moon oppose one another in Pisces and Virgo: the axis of service. The February full moon is also called the Snow Moon. The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise – and this is true all over the world, no matter your time zone.
Virgo and Pisces narrate dreams vs. reality. Virgo tightens, Pisces flows. Pisces is hardly awake. She yearns for something else. The fishes don’t handle reality so well. Pisces abides so far away that when she is suddenly, forcibly confronted by what is, she would honestly rather die. Too much Pisces makes us confused, deceitful and delusional.
Virgo rules the rational, waking, judging mind. Pisces rules fantasy and intoxication. Virgo chokes in dizzying circles of anxiety; Pisces dissipates in clouds of denial and indecision. The fishes live behind closed eyes. This is all good, we just have to remain grounded and present as we sink below. Pay attention. It is too easy, especially with Neptune still in Pisces, to slip in and out of twilight nothingness. And that’s what this full moon is here to do. Virgo shakes us by the shoulders as if to say: be aware! Keep your eyes open, head up! Do not ignore obvious signals in the outside world!
This full moon is all about service, and that includes service to ourselves in the form of exercise, proper diet and general health and wellness. If these things are being neglected in your life (as they often are for many Virgo/Pisces folks) – this full moon will bring bodily issues to your attention in a powerful way.
Full moons are high energy and felt not just the day of, but for days before and after. They heighten emotions and intuition, such as women experience before menstruation. During the full moon, we are more likely to overreact. It is our duty to remain calm and non-reactive no matter what. Non-reaction is the root of all journeys.
This full moon forms two interesting aspects, both of them loose trines. The first is with Uranus in the final degrees of Aries, the second with Mars in the first degrees of Taurus. This means (good) unexpected surprises and physical energy, along with emotional courage and healthy release of anger. Happy supermoon indeed! Yay!
Here we are beneath the full moon, one foot on earth and the other quickly turning translucent, pulled by an unseen force to the farthest star. In our toes the fishes swim in rings, urging us toward the ocean’s rocky depths. Sorry mermaids, you can’t leave the world just yet. You dream of fantastical suspension, of being mere vapor in the vacuum, but you must awaken. It is painful, I know, but stay here and together we will transform. In meditation, focus on the solar plexus chakra. Calm your nervous system with Virgo Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
