Super Flower Moon in Scorpio ♏️ May 7, 2020

Thursday, May 7 at 3.45am PST

This full moon is the final of three supermoons in 2020, with last month’s Supermoon in Libra coming in as the biggest of the year. A supermoon is a full moon or new moon which occurs when the moon is at perigee, or within 90% of perigee (the point at which the moon is nearest to the earth in her monthly orbit). The May full moon is called the Flower Moon or, according to The Farmer’s Almanac, “Mother’s Moon, Milk Moon, and Corn Planting Moon, mark[ing] a time of increasing fertility with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom.” The full moon always rises at sunset, peaks at midnight, and sets at sunrise, no matter where you are.

Sun and moon oppose one another in solid Taurus and enigmatic Scorpio: the axis of all that can be seen, versus all that cannot. Together these constellations rule finance, inheritance, property, taxes, and material possessions. Taurus and Scorpio narrate tangibles and intangibles, form and dissolution of form, conscious thought and subconscious desire, straight paths and winding staircases.

The scorpion journey is inescapable and irreversible. Scorpio takes us beyond fear, like a tidal wave ripping psychological complexes out by the roots, then carrying us, screaming and naked and bewildered, over a waterfall of change and joy and more change. Taurus is simpler. She nurtures our bodies and the local environs. Taurus is here to work and beautify, to eat and make love, to relax and sigh into her mountain of pillows and blankets and cats.

The Supermoon in Scorpio takes us down to the lower chakras, like a submarine from the sea of mystery. Scorpio slinks through total darkness, through tombs and invisible oceans. She is the catalyst for inquiry, manipulation, and lust. She is a winged creature, clawing her way out of a chrysalis that has become much too small.

When astrologers talk about Scorpio, power and control are common buzzwords. It’s true, Scorpio karma is very much tied to these dynamics. The essence of Scorpio, however, is really about self-control; it is ourselves whom we must learn to trust. So trust yourself, shadow and all. Forgive yourself! Take deep breaths. Now is the time to be strong.

To all the empaths out there – I see you, I acknowledge the work you are doing. I know you continue to experience physical fatigue and mental drain during these wild times on earth.

At this full moon last year, I was in Reykjavik at a workshop with the world-famous Dutch “Ice Man,” Wim Hof. In a giant conference room in a convention center on the seashore, 450 attendees breathed together in a kundalini-style exercise; we ascended, breathing our way into a state of joy and lightness. The entire day was a preparation for the ice bath. I am definitely not someone who likes cold water, but I’m telling you, straight up, that I felt absolutely no fear or panic when I sat in the ice for two entire minutes.

Before the ice bath, we all stripped down to our swimsuits indoors, and then began chanting HU! HA! HU! HA! HU! HA! over and over, our voices filling the entire space, turning into raucous laughter, tears of joy. Buff Icelandic dudes with legit Viking ancestry danced and chanted, wearing nothing but Viking hats and speedos. Together we moved outside, chanting and yelling and cheering, and together we sat in the ice baths, making soul-piercing eye contact with one another, some of us singing and chanting our own deep notes.

What I learned on this unforgettable day is the power of inner fire. It is not surprising that all of this happened on the Full Moon in Scorpio because this is exactly the nature of the scorpion: fire-water. She is at once cold as ice, and as hot as Mars, hot like blood and adrenaline.

This full moon will form a harmonious trine to Neptune in Pisces, but will also oppose Mercury in Taurus. When Mercury is opposed, mental blocks are likely; also watch for verbal strikes, wait until the full moon has passed before initiating difficult conversations. However, the trine to Neptune suggests a highly emotional, cathartic, and spiritual day – it’s time to let go…

In meditation, focus on the solar plexus chakra. Weave your web with Scorpio Yoga. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
