Last Quarter Moon in Aries ☾ July 16, 2017

Sunday, July 16 at 12.27pm PST

The moon will rise at midnight, peak at dawn and set at noon. If you view the moon at midnight, the Sun will be positioned directly beneath your feet. Staring at the moon during this time will align you so that you are looking right out (approximately) along the forward path of Earth’s orbit around the Sun ^__^

Solar beams from Cancer square the moon in Aries. Squares prompt change and it’s all about ~new directions~

This square is between what we do and what we feel. Aries and Cancer are magnificent allies. Together they extoll cooperation and open communication. Together they calmly lecture humanity on the virtues of peace and non-violence, or ahimsa as it is known in yoga. From Aries we learn to be fearless, and from Cancer the importance of compassion. Cancer is our mother, and Aries her fiery firstborn son. Cancer suffuses our collective psyche with loving-kindness and sensitivity. Aries emboldens us through moving, doing, dancing.

Let’s be like Aries and put into motion any creative or spiritual ambitions previously expressed on a purely mental or verbal level. For example, you might move to a new place based on insight gained through intuition or a healing conversation. You might host/organize/attend an alternative workshop involving art or divine feminine badassery.

The First Quarter in Cancer in early April (reversal station with the Sun in Aries squaring the moon in Cancer) was fraught with turbulent hearts striving for thoughtful consideration of all parties involved. Only you know if these efforts truly succeeded or whether they were just crude attempts at real humility and understanding. And if you’re not satisfied with the results of this last juncture, we can do better. The ram is here now to awaken the crab. This quarter moon is a call to action. Aries does not tolerate meekness or falsity. He adds combustibility to Cancer’s slow-flowing essence so that it may spiral to full expression.

At this station, we must be wary. If someone is asking you to believe in them, think twice, then think again. This conflict likely concerns important karmic contracts since we are still in the first few months of the astrological year where thoughts and actions have serious staying power. We must always act according to our highest purpose, even if this means temporarily offending someone.

A fateful mood soaks the sky. Aries is a creature of fire – reckless and temperamental one moment, spirited and excitable the next. Sometimes he shuts us down, transforming us with just a few flippant words from an empowered goddess to a vulnerable child. But even crabs can climb mountains, and if you have something to say, then go ahead and say it, my sensitive lunar friends.

We all have different responsibilities depending on our disposition. If you’re more of a watery, emotional type, stand up for yourself, listen to your heart. If you follow the beat of something that you are not totally sure about, this will end in frustration, and this is not the fault of others. Fiery, horned humans – slow down.

We have no control over the intentions of others, but we can and must fortify our energetic walls and stay confident. Luna’s waning light represents gradual descent into darkness: a return to the womb. Gracefully surrender to the moon’s power. Sieve through the disingenuous. Release and forgive. Destroy useless internal edifices. Now rear your horns and ascend!

This quarter moon will be only four degrees from Uranus, what is known as a conjunction in astrology, or when two planets are within 10 degrees of one another on the ecliptic plane. Any conjunction with Uranus means that we must expect the unexpected. Uranus is the planet of intellectual enlightenment and innovation. His energy is electric and uncontrollable, appearing instantaneously from out of the blue. Uranian influence is a reminder to be humble in the face of uncertainty and sudden change.

The moon will also square Mars, ruler of Aries. Mars, like Aries, is an undeniably masculine, fiery force. We must be extremely careful not to let anger dictate how we communicate with others at this phase. I suggest minimizing social contact as much as possible. The best way to channel this lunar/solar/Martian/Uranian maelstrom is to hike, dance or however you like to get your heart rate up. Trust me, you will have enough energy to do anything you want, and a blaze in your soul begging to be soothed. I suggest spending time in or near water after you sweat it out. Stay hydrated too!
