Last Quarter Moon in Aquarius ☾ May 18, 2017

Thursday, May 18 at 5.35pm PST

The moon will rise at midnight, peak at dawn and set at noon. If you view the moon at midnight, the Sun will be positioned directly beneath your feet. Staring at the moon during this time will align you so that you are looking right out (approximately) along the forward path of Earth’s orbit around the Sun ^__^

Two days before the Sun moves into Gemini, solar beams square the moon in Aquarius. Squares prompt change and it’s all about ~new directions~

Let’s look at the First Quarter in Taurus from the first week of February, as this was a reversal of our current station (with the Sun in Aquarius, moon in Taurus). Then it was Taurus who grounded us, providing precious stability amidst a whirlwind of inward/outward traveling. From Taurus we learn the art of comfort and hospitality; from Aquarius we learn to be radical, imaginative. The First Quarter in Taurus was an incredible hostess. This transit was all about good company, good food, fine aesthetics – whatever makes us feel at home. Now it’s Aquarius who welcomes us. Aquarius pushes us to be more active and open.

Aquarius is our resident rebel, speeding through life with electric intellect, successfully detached from society’s expectations. Above all else, he seeks ancient wisdom. The only potential obstacle here is differing energy levels. Taurus likes to avoid the masses as she’s not a very social creature. The bull is often glued to her bed or couch surrounded by books and cats, but not Aquarius! The water bearer will drag us out somewhere, but don’t grumble! Be receptive to heartwarming social experiences. I see good friends learning from one another and conversing with radiant laughter.

Luna moves into Pisces late in the evening of May 18. Exactly 24 hours later, she forms a conjunction to (coming to the exact degree as) Neptune. This means that, if we were able to see Neptune with the naked eye, we could draw a perfectly vertical line through the center of the moon to the center of Pisces. Conjunctions are aspects in which planets work together and enhance one another’s qualities. Neptune is the mystic and the dreamer, thoroughly feminine in essence, just like the moon. When the moon passes over her, communication with women is a must. Speak your heart, smooth the waves. It can be, however, an emotionally erratic day. This conjunction occurs in the constellation of Pisces, and Pisces thrives on change and movement. Pisces is also the last sign in the zodiac wheel and therefore represents endings, so recognize that whatever you are engaged in may be coming to a close.

Luna lands in Aries in the wee hours of May 21, signaling monthly rebirth and a fresh current of energy. You will feel different when you wake up – not just more energized, but lighter, more alive, ready to move. On the morning of May 22, the moon is conjunct another goddess planet: Venus. This is a truly pleasant aspect – think celestial guidance, empathy, healthy sensitivity and a wave of cosmic estrogen beautifying all that it touches. As this aspect falls in Aries rather than Pisces, it is marked instead by a distinct fiery energy and active exploration of that which excites the soul. Think adventure, friendly social relations and a clean feeling inside and out.

Just before midnight on May 23, the moon forms another conjunction to Uranus, God of the Unexpected. Conjunctions with Uranus suggest abruptness in the form of accidents, falls, crashes, even violent dreams — or, on the other hand, lovely surprises such as newly discovered favorite spots or radical experiences which expand the mind.

On the morning of May 23, Luna passes into Taurus. That same evening, she forms a conjunction to Mercury, the Messenger God. This is a wonderful aspect where the emotional body (Moon) clicks with communication and the mind (Mercury). This indicates healthy communication with ourselves and with others. We decide together where we want to go, what we want to do. It also indicates important emotional communication. Although it may not feel smooth and painless at the outset, we should not bottle what we feel. Share what lies in your heart. Talk it out, throat chakra fully open. Luna finally passes into Gemini early on May 25, hours before the new moon station. When you awake you will feel something truly effervescent in your blood…

This quarter moon is a beginning and a checkpoint and a culmination all at once. We’re on the road to find out, as Cat Stevens sings. Stay flexible and free from thoughts that say this is how it is. Though the places we inhabit are well-worn and familiar, there is always something new, something unforeseen, something sparkling just below the horizon.
