Full Moon in Leo 🐱 Jan 28, 2021

Happy full moon! The January full moon is called the Wolf Moon. The moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise all over the world, no matter your time zone.

In your mind, visualize the earth sandwiched between the full moon and the Aquarian sun – this is the planetary configuration of every full moon. Any full moon during Aquarius season will always be in Leo, as this is the constellation opposite Aquarius on the zodiac wheel. The geometric relationship between the constellations is fixed in relation to the phases of the moon. The full moon in Leo is an examination of the Leo–Aquarius opposition, and all the ways in which these archetypes complement one another.

This full moon teaches us to roll with the punches and expect the unexpected. Second: connect with friends and community. Leo and Aquarius take individual consciousness and weave it upon the great cosmic loom. Lastly: be daring, liberate yourself. Leo rules self-expression. He is pure theatrical fire, like a flamboyant actor on stage. It’s no secret that the lion is really into himself. Aquarius is quick to check this behavior, but he has an ego of his own. The water bearer is confident that his message will change Leo’s navel-gazing world. With these two archetypes on our side – equally self-assured and hellishly obstinate – we can accomplish anything. Together Leo & Aquarius brew a tonic of emotional freedom.

This full moon is an agent of wisdom and self-empowerment. Let’s destroy old psychological boundaries and allow healthier paradigms to emerge. Evaporate these binds and bonds and tethers with a wink of Aquarius’ magic turquoise eyes.

At this full moon a couple years ago, I was in the middle of the woods in northern California, swimming in another dimension. I left the windows of the cabin open so I could hear the drums outside, thundering from an enormous tipi. This was the final night of a days-long Native American Church meeting. The drum beat impossibly quickly, like a stag galloping between the trees; the silhouettes of 40 people flickered with profound mystery upon the deer hides. Sparks from the fire spouted from the top of the tipi, drifting ecstatically into the sky. I prayed with all of my being; I dove deep into my body; I saw without seeing. The crippling pain I normally experience with my autoimmune disease did not come. I was left instead in a state of unprecedented psychic openness, free to enjoy, free to explore my mind’s eye without the pain. Many things are possible at this full moon.

Some possibilities are less glamorous. On this full moon last year, there was a KKK rally in Portland, super gross manifestation of the pride aspect of Leo. Also my partner and I got in an argument so I took some space and went to the farm where my friend was house sitting and brushed cats, drank wine, and played Mario Kart. Yeah I know how to live.

This full moon will coincide with two other planetary aspects. In the morning, Venus in Capricorn will be conjunct powerful Pluto. Emotions will run high. A great day to talk about real shit. Pluto allows us to appreciate our deep work and accomplishments. After the full moon, the sun will be conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius. This signals that this full moon is a very good time to travel.

Astrology nerds out there will know that whenever we have a solar conjunction on the full moon, this means that same planet is forming an opposition to the moon. Moon opposite Jupiter means we want to see the best in others, but to a fault. We are quick to forgive so that things feel “right” again. We also tend to promise more than we can deliver. Emotions will quickly swing from high to low. We will also be quick to latch on to new ideas. Ground yourself with good judgment to temper this overly enthusiastic influence and avoid wasting energy. On the bright side, we will be feeling enormously optimistic and generous.

Psychic and physical energy increase significantly at every full moon. This is felt not just the day of, but for days before and after. Emotions and intuition will be heightened. Build heat in your body with Leo Yoga. If you’re feeling super groovy and wanna rock this at the next level, travel up to the third eye for meditation. To find your personal moon sign, click here.
